Achraf Hakimi Charged With Rape

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender and Moroccan national team player Achraf Hakimi is facing rape charges in France.

The charges were announced by the prosecutor’s office in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre on Friday.

Hakimi has been placed under judicial supervision and barred from contacting the alleged victim while the investigation is ongoing.

According to Hakimi’s lawyer Fanny Colin, the 24-year-old footballer denies the allegations and suggested during a hearing this week that he had been the victim of a “racketeering attempt.” Hakimi, who was born in Spain, was a key player for Morocco during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The charges against Achraf Hakimi do not automatically result in a trial and could be dismissed under French law.

However, French media reports suggest that a preliminary investigation was launched on Monday after a woman reported being raped by Achraf Hakimi at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt on the outskirts of Paris last Saturday.

PSG has not yet commented on the matter, but Hakimi was seen training with the club on Friday after the charges were announced.

PSG coach Christophe Galtier declined to comment on the matter, saying he would only answer questions “of a non-sporting nature” relating to Hakimi.

Galtier added that he hoped Hakimi could train with the rest of the team and be available to play against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday.

The case has drawn significant attention from football fans and media worldwide, as Hakimi is considered one of the most promising young talents in the sport.

The news of the charges against him has raised questions about his future in football and the impact of the investigation on his career.

The case also highlights the ongoing issue of sexual assault and violence against women, particularly in the context of high-profile athletes and celebrities.
