Military Commander gets shot dead in Katsina

A tragic incident unfolded at Sabon Garin Dan’Ali, located within the Danmusa local government area of Katsina state, as a military commander fell victim to an ambush on Thursday evening.

According to sources speaking with Daily Trust, the commander, whose identity remains undisclosed, was attacked while responding to a call for reinforcement in Malali village, Kankara local government area.

Malali, situated along Zangon Pawwa road, has become a hotspot for bandit activities, posing a significant challenge to security forces.

The commander, known for his prompt responses to calls for assistance, arrived at the scene in a Hilux vehicle, as armored personnel carriers (APCs) were reportedly unavailable at the time. Tragically, he was ambushed by assailants who fatally shot him in the head.

Amidst the retrieval of the commander’s body, a fierce gun battle erupted between the bandits and military personnel. In the chaos, an officer tasked with recovering the fallen commander also sustained gunshot wounds.

An anonymous resident, shedding light on the harrowing ordeal, recounted how the bandits capitalized on the confusion created by security forces firing shots into the air. Exploiting the opportunity, they targeted the commander upon his arrival, launching a fatal assault.

Kankara local government has been grappling with a surge in bandit attacks, leading to the abandonment of villages and widespread fear among residents.
