Remi Tinubu reveals how Tinubu rejected her senatorial ambition

The Nigerian First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has revealed the formidable resistance she faced from her husband, Bola Tinubu, in her pursuit of a senatorial seat, highlighting the compelling story at the Valedictory session of the 9th Senate of the National Assembly, as reported by TopNaija.

Oluremi Tinubu disclosed that her husband initially disapproved of her aspiration to join the Red Chamber in 2011, emphasizing that serving the nation necessitates immense sacrifice. With her tenure spanning an impressive 12 years in the Senate, she further unveiled that after persistent persuasion, her husband eventually relented and extended his support.

Expressing her gratitude, she acknowledged President Tinubu for granting her the liberty to contribute significantly to the betterment of the lives of Nigerians. She also conveyed her appreciation to her colleagues for their unwavering support.

In her own words, she exclaimed, “I must express my thanks to my husband for his invaluable support. Whenever I sought advice, he readily provided it. He granted me the freedom to be authentic and to make the necessary contributions to enhance the lives of our people, particularly our women, youths, and children.”

Oluremi Tinubu acknowledged the divine sustenance that enabled her to serve for three consecutive terms, spanning from the 7th Assembly to the 9th Assembly. She humbly confessed her bewilderment at her ability to endure the arduous journey, recognizing that serving the nation demands substantial sacrifices, starting from one’s own household, children, and even one’s spouse.

Commending the harmonious environment that prevailed among legislators, regardless of their diverse tribes, ethnicities, and religious backgrounds, she stated, “Throughout the years, we have formed profound friendships, becoming brothers and sisters despite our varied tribes, ethnicities, and religious affiliations. We represented the entirety of Nigerians and united when crucial decisions needed to be made in the best interests of the nation. We acted as statesmen and stateswomen.”

Oluremi Tinubu also proudly declared that she fulfilled all the responsibilities expected of a legislator, diligently presenting motions, proposing bills, and witnessing their transformation into law through the assent of relevant authorities.
