Real Madrid star, Vinicius Jr. gets into real trouble over Testimony

Real Madrid player, Vinicius Jr. earns the ire of La Liga club, Valencia over his testimony in court.

Valencia Football Club issued a scathing statement following Vinicius Jr’s statement on facing discriminatory behavior from the club.

In their statement, they alleged the Real Madrid star shared “fallacies and unfounded lies” during his testimony in an ongoing trial centered on an incident of racial abuse directed at the Brazilian international in May.

At the conclusion of last season, the 23-year-old winger faced racial abuse from spectators at Valencia’s Mestalla stadium.

Vinicius Jr. promptly identified the individuals responsible for the discriminatory comments, prompting the referee to pause the game for discussions with the fourth official and coaches on the touchline.

Play eventually resumed, but Vinicius received a red card during the ensuing fracas, which was later overturned.

Following the match, Vinicius posted an Instagram story in which he asserted that “racism is normal in La Liga” and lamented that “the championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano, and Messi, now belongs to racists.”

During his testimony in court on Thursday, Vinicius claimed that he felt like a victim of discrimination and that the entire Mestalla stadium had racially abused him. The trial has also summoned Vinicius’ teammate, Eder Militao, to provide an eye-witness account as proceedings continue.

In response to Vinicius Jr.’s statements, Valencia Football Club expressed their strong disapproval in a strongly worded statement. The club conveyed their “surprise, rejection, and indignation” at his comments.

The statement from Valencia read,

“As coach Carlo Ancelotti himself publicly acknowledged, in no case can the behavior be generalized to the entire Mestalla stadium.

“The club is fully aware of the seriousness of this matter. Racism has no place in football or in society, but it cannot be fought with fallacies or unfounded lies.”

Valencia FC emphasized the need for precision and responsibility in addressing such issues, stating,

“This issue requires the involvement of everyone, and Valencia CF understands that it must be scrupulously precise and responsible in this type of demonstrations.”
