Focus is on Liverpool -- Haaland snubs Real Madrid talks

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has addressed speculation surrounding his future amid ongoing reports linking him to Real Madrid.

Since joining Manchester City in 2022, Haaland has solidified his status as one of the world’s top strikers.

In the previous season, the Norwegian sensation set a club record with an impressive tally of 52 goals, including 36 in the Premier League, contributing significantly to City’s historic treble triumph in the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup.

Haaland’s outstanding performances have naturally attracted attention from European giants such as Real Madrid and Barcelona, with the former reportedly expressing interest in signing him prior to his move to City.

Despite having more than three years remaining on his current contract with City, ongoing rumors have linked Haaland with a potential move to Spain.

Earlier reports suggested that Manchester City were optimistic about securing the striker to a new long-term deal, potentially offering him a staggering salary of £600,000 per week, as per The Mirror.

However, recent comments from Haaland indicate that negotiations for a new contract might not be as advanced as previously thought. While expressing contentment with his time at City and praising the club’s management, Haaland remained guarded about his future plans.

Speaking about his current situation at City, Haaland stated, “I’m really happy, especially with the people I’m surrounded by. The manager, the directors, the board, I am really happy I have to say.”

However, he added a note of caution, acknowledging the uncertainty of the future and emphasizing the need to focus on his present commitments.

When questioned about the possibility of signing a new contract with City, Haaland remained evasive, redirecting attention to his immediate footballing duties.

“Yeah, my focus is mainly now on the pitch,” he remarked.

“There’s a lot of games, two days ago a derby, now CL, Sunday is Liverpool so I think I should focus on that.”
