The Nigerian Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently preparing for the upcoming presidential election, which it sees as a huge task.

However, it has come to light that the National Working Committee has decided to deal with the alleged anti-party activities of Governor Nyesom Wike-led Integrity Group after the elections. The group includes the governors of Rivers State, Enugu, Abia, Benue, and Oyo, who pulled out of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council last year, insisting that the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, quit his position.

As a result, the governors have since pitched their tents with their preferred presidential candidates. While Makinde and Wike were said to be allegedly working for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu, Ortom has openly endorsed the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, even as Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi are reportedly torn between Atiku and Obi.

According to a member of the PDP National Executive Committee, the action of the aggrieved governors infuriated party stakeholders across the board. The NEC member noted that the leadership of the party would set in motion what to do with them after the polls to demonstrate the supremacy of the party in line with the PDP constitution.

The Deputy National Youth Leader of the party, Timothy Osadolor, also confirmed that sanctions for the aggrieved governors are not a question of if, but when. He stated that “when the dust of elections is over, the party will revisit the issue. The party is supreme. Head or tail, their issue will be treated.”

It is important for the PDP to maintain its unity and deal with any issues of anti-party activities that could jeopardize its chances in the upcoming election. While it is natural for individuals to have personal preferences, the party should always come first. As young Nigerians, it is our duty to support the political parties that we believe have our best interests at heart and help ensure a peaceful and successful election.
