"Nigerians deserve this punishment" -- Charly Boy

Nigerian entertainment icon and veteran artiste, Charly Boy has hit at the Nigerian political and judicial following the election petition tribunal ruling for the 2023 polls, condemning the absence of justice in the country’s political landscape.

In an interview with Naija News, Charly Boy, a staunch supporter of the Labour Party, shared his thoughts on what to expect from the Supreme Court’s judgment.

Charly Boy in the interview, expressed doubt, suggesting that the court and its judges may be compromised.

“Not exactly expecting anything different from PEPT judgement, we can see that the court and judges are compromised, we are living in a very strange time, the country is deserving of the kind of leadership it gets.”

The veteran singer highlighted the challenging times Nigeria is currently experiencing and voiced concern that the country might be receiving the leadership it deserves.

He noted that Nigerians’ unity has been weakened by factors such as ignorance, tribal sentiments, and religiosity, which have made it increasingly difficult for the common man to find justice.

“Maybe we deserve the punishment we are getting, ignorance, tribal sentiments, and religiosity have weakened us.

“During my father’s time, the common man could look up to the court for justice, but we can no longer find justice, and it is left for the common man to say enough is enough.” the veteran artiste said.

Charly Boy’s comments come in the wake of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) verdict, which affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election.

Following the PEPT ruling, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have taken their case to the apex court, vowing to exhaust all legal avenues.
