"Peter Obi is plotting to decamp from Labour Party" -- Bwala

In a recent development, Daniel Bwala, a former spokesman for the now-defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has made startling allegations suggesting a political maneuver by the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Bwala claims that Peter Obi is allegedly plotting to join forces with former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, within the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

According to Bwala, Obi’s alleged move comes in response to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)’s decision to assume control of the LP, displacing Julius Abure’s leadership.

The assertion was made public via a post on X, where Bwala speculated on the potential implications of such a coalition, suggesting it might not necessarily pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s aspirations ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

“BREAKING – Peter Obi @PeterObi allegedly planning to unite with El-rufai @elrufai in Social Democratic Party as Nigerian Labour Congress set to take ownership and custody of their political party, the @NgLabour,” Bwala wrote in the post. He further elaborated on the legal backdrop, mentioning a court ruling affirming the NLC’s ownership of the Labour Party.

As speculations swirl, it’s worth noting that this development coincides with Nasir El-Rufai’s recent visit to the headquarters of the SDP in Abuja.

During his visit, El-Rufai held consultations with the SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, who hailed the former Kaduna governor as a political figure of significant standing, emphasizing the need for transformational leadership in Nigeria.

El-Rufai’s visit was met with reception from members of the SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), suggesting a potential shift in the political landscape as alliances and alignments begin to take shape in the lead-up to future electoral cycles.

However, the extent of Peter Obi’s alleged involvement in these maneuvers and their impact on the broader political landscape remains subject to further scrutiny and confirmation.
