My goal is to retire Atiku from Nigeria politics -- Shettima

In the wake of the recent Presidential Election Petition Court ruling, Vice President Kashim Shettima did not hold back his criticism of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election.

The court upheld the victory of Shettima’s principal, Bola Tinubu, while simultaneously dismissing the petitions filed by Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.

In a candid statement to the press following the court’s decision, Shettima did not mince words. He began by acknowledging Atiku Abubakar’s status as an elder statesman and expressed his deep respect for him.

However, he swiftly transitioned into a more pointed commentary, highlighting the complex socio-cultural interactions between the Fulanis and the Kanuris in Northern Nigeria.

Shettima’s remarks took a sharp turn when he stated,

“Anybody who knows the socio-cultural interaction between the Fulanis and the Kanuris in the North will know that I have the liberty to hurl all insults at him and he will historically bear.”

The Vice President’s comments continued with a touch of humor, as he reassured the public that there were no plans to exile Atiku Abubakar to foreign shores. Instead, he proposed an alternative retirement plan:

“I will retire him to Kombina, I will buy him goats and broilers and layers so that he can spend his days rearing goats and broilers.”
