On Monday, May 6th, the illustrious Metropolitan Museum of Art played host to the highly anticipated 2024 Met Gala, where Hollywood’s biggest names graced the steps in an extravagant display of fashion and creativity.
This year’s event was co-chaired by Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, and Bad Bunny, promising a star-studded affair. The theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” challenged attendees to interpret “The Garden of Time” dress code, drawing inspiration from JG Ballard’s short story of the same name.
While the theme of the 2024 Met Gala might not have met the standards of The Devil Wears Prada’s formidable magazine editor, Miranda Priestly, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the attendees, who arrived in a stunning array of garden-inspired ensembles.
Camila Cabello made a chilling statement, quite literally, with a gown adorned with a block of ice, while Zendaya opted for a bluish-green Maison Margiela creation reminiscent of a peacock’s palette.
Elsewhere on the green carpet, Doja Cat turned heads in a giant T-shirt dress by Vetements, Cardi B mesmerized with an expansive organza gown, and Kim Kardashian sparked online chatter with a silver Maison Margiela dress cinched with an extreme corset.
Elle Fanning’s Balmain gown featured resin birds hovering above her shoulders, while Lana del Rey’s Alexander McQueen ensemble boasted branchlike protrusions holding up beige netting, serving both as a veil and mosquito protection.
South African singer Tyla turned heads with a Balmain gown adorned with three types of sand and an hourglass accessory, while actress Rebecca Ferguson stunned in a Thom Browne cape and a sparkling high-collar gown.
Although Met Gala stalwart Rihanna was notably absent from this year’s event, the green carpet was nonetheless ablaze with the glamour and creativity of Hollywood’s elite, ensuring the 2024 Met Gala will be remembered as a night of unforgettable fashion moments.
