How Real Madrid will replace Benzema -- Courtois

Real Madrid have never been a club to feel the absence of a player after their exit from the club, and for goalie, Thibaut Courtois, it is the same feeling regarding Karim Benzema’s exit from the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The France international left earlier in the summer transfer window for Saudi Arabian club, Al Ittihad after spending most of his career years at the La Liga club.

According to Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid has plans in place to replace Karim Benzema’s input in the team as the season nears a start day.

Speaking about how the team plans to replace Benzema’s goals, Courtois said through Spanish media publication Madrid Zone:

“Replacing Benzema’s goals? It has to be a team thing. We have Vini, Rodrygo, Joselu who is a really good striker for us.

“He is a profile we did not have before. Fede scored like 12-14 goals last season, maybe now he has to try to score 20. It comes as a team.”

Thibaut Courtois’ statement comes as a reference to how the Los Blancos dealt with the exit of former Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018.

Following the Portugal captain’s exit, Karim Benzema took reigns of the forward line’s attack, becoming key provider of Real Madrid’s crucial goals that have won the team points and trophies.

Karim Benzema was in superb form last season, scoring 31 goals and providing six assists in 43 matches across competitions for Real Madrid as well as the season prior.

The Frenchman played a key part in Real Madrid’s victory in the Champions League and La Liga.

Therefore, replacing Benzema will be a tough ask for Madrid and Courtois believes the likes of Joselu Mato, Vinicius, Rodrygo and Federico Valverde can replace Benzema’s goals by taking up his responsibilities.
