Family of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi appeal FG for State burial

The family of the late Taiwo Akinkunmi, the renowned designer of Nigeria’s national flag, has fervently appealed to the federal government to bestow upon their father a dignified state burial.

Samuel Akinkunmi, the eldest son of the deceased, made this impassioned plea during a press conference held in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday.

Expressing the significance of such an honor for his late father, Samuel Akinkunmi emphasized that it would serve as an inspiring example to the younger generation, motivating them towards hard work, integrity, and selfless service to the nation.

He remarked,

“It will make Nigerian youths believe in hard work, integrity, and selfless service to the nation.”

While acknowledging the profound loss the family feels due to their father’s passing, Samuel Akinkunmi drew solace from the knowledge that Taiwo Akinkunmi lived a fulfilling life marked by significant achievements.

He stated,

“I believe that we don’t need to mourn him because he played his part well. He got to his bus stop ceremoniously in life and got down peacefully.”

The family’s heartfelt request centers on the hope that the Federal Government will accord Taiwo Akinkunmi a fitting burial to honor his contributions to Nigeria.

Samuel Akinkunmi further mentioned that his father’s demise leaves an irreplaceable void, one only God can fill. He also praised his late father’s exceptional accomplishments.

Pa. Taiwo Akinkunmi passed away on Tuesday at the age of 87, succumbing to a brief illness associated with old age.

His legacy as the creator of Nigeria’s iconic national flag endures, and his family hopes that the government will recognize his invaluable contribution with a befitting farewell.
