Why Prince Harry and Meghan are visiting Nigeria -- Army reveals

In a statement released over the weekend, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are scheduled to visit Nigeria in May of 2024.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, disclosed this information, expressing the DHQ’s honor and delight at the royal couple’s acceptance of the invitation.

The statement outlined that during their visit, Prince Harry and Meghan will engage with military personnel and participate in various cultural activities.

The statement highlighted the significance of the visit, emphasizing the couple’s connection to the military community through their involvement with the Invictus Games. Prince Harry, in particular, is noted as the founder of the Invictus Games, an international multi-sport event aimed at providing a recovery pathway for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel.

Gen Gusau underscored the success of the Invictus Games, citing its last edition which saw participation from 21 nations, including Nigeria, which secured gold and silver medals in its inaugural outing.

The visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is seen as an opportunity to further strengthen Nigeria’s position within the Invictus Games community and explore the possibility of hosting the event in the future.
