“My hotel more important than Super Eagles job” — Enyeama

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has shed light on his decision not to pursue the head coaching position for the Nigerian national team, citing two primary reasons for abstaining from the application process.

Following the conclusion of Jose Peseiro’s contract, various former Nigerian players have emerged as potential candidates for the coveted coaching role. Enyeama, renowned for his stellar performances between the posts for the Super Eagles, has been among those linked with the position.

However, in an interview with Afrik-Foot, Enyeama disclosed that he refrained from applying for the role due to two significant factors.

Firstly, he emphasized the necessity for coaching certification as a prerequisite for leading the Super Eagles. Enyeama acknowledged that while he possesses extensive football knowledge and experience, obtaining the required coaching qualifications remains a fundamental requirement for assuming such a prestigious position.

“For you to be able to coach the Super Eagles, you must be certified. That’s the minimum standard,” Enyeama emphasized, highlighting the regulatory standards set for coaching appointments within the Nigerian Football Federation.

In addition, Enyeama believes the management of his hotel business is far more important than taking a managerial role with the national team.

“That’s the number one reason, and then for the fact that I have been very busy developing and managing my hotel has taken a lot of my attention, and that business is the most important thing for me now.”
