Arsenal will come to regret new summer signing -- Steve Nicol

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has raised concerns over Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s new summer signing, Kai Havertz, suggesting that Arteta might regret the decision to bring the player to the club.

Nicol expressed skepticism about Havertz’s ability to score 18 goals for Arsenal in the upcoming season, casting doubt on his potential impact.

Speaking to ESPN, Nicol questioned how Havertz would achieve such a goal tally, stating,

“He is not getting 18 goals. I would love to see how he gets all these assists and goals because I am not sure he starts.”

Nicol further analyzed Arsenal’s attacking options and highlighted the competition for places, particularly in the forward line. He pointed out that Gabriel Jesus is likely to be a regular starter, leaving limited space for Havertz in the starting lineup.

Nicol stated, “There is no way Gabriel Jesus doesn’t start, right?! The front three is set.”

The Liverpool legend acknowledged the risks associated with Havertz’s early performances and their potential impact on his future at the club. If Havertz were to have a poor debut game, Nicol speculated that Arteta might reconsider his decision, saying,

“If Havertz, in his first game, if he does start in the middle, has a shocker, then you might never see him again. Arteta might go, ‘you know what, I have made a big mistake. This is not going to work’.”

Havertz’s arrival at Arsenal follows his transfer from Chelsea a few days ago, generating excitement among fans about the attacking potential he brings to the team. However, Nicol’s comments serve as a reminder that transitioning to a new club and adapting to a different style of play can pose challenges for any player.

As Arsenal prepares for the upcoming season, Arteta will need to carefully assess his options in the attacking department and find the right balance to maximize the team’s performance. The expectations surrounding Havertz’s goal-scoring ability will undoubtedly be a topic of interest and scrutiny as the season progresses.

Only time will tell whether Havertz can live up to the high expectations and make a significant impact at Arsenal.

As the new campaign approaches, Arsenal fans eagerly await the start of the season to witness how the German midfielder will fare in Arteta’s plans and whether he can prove Nicol’s doubts wrong by making a lasting impression on the team.
