Arsenal hammered by West Ham at the Emirates

Arsenal defeated on home turf by West Ham United in a 0-2 hammering at the Emirates.

It wasn’t supposed to go this way but the premier league knows how to get dramatic when it wants to. And what better way to keep the night alive than to bring us double entertainment with North London sides, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur seeing defeats on the same day?

The Gunners went into Thursday night looking set to take back their spot at the top of the premier league table with their match week 19 game against the East Londoners, but West Ham had other ideas, and if we may fly into conspiracy angles; other allegiances.

Though well dominant throughout the game, the Hammers only needed one moment to hurt the Gunners when Tomas Soucek whistled past the Arsenal defence thanks to a pass from Jarrod Bowen to put West Ham a goal up in under 13 minutes of kickoff.

The pass, debated to have resulted from the ball going out of play, kickstarted the now familiar narrative that has met the North London side in their last 2 premier league defeats; the first was in the case of Newcastle United, the second against Aston Villa, with the ball both times considered to have gone out of play.

Arsenal hammered and robbed at the Emirates by unmasked West Ham United.

Arsenal however had ample opportunity to level on return from half-time, with the Gunners registering a total of 8 shots on target atop a possession stats of 76%, but West Ham held their nerves to double their lead yet again via Konstantinos Mavropanos thanks to an assist from James Ward-Prowse.

The Hammers even went close to hammering a third in the 90th minute if substitute, Saïd Benrahma had converted the spot kick awarded West Ham.

This adds more woes for the Gunners and Mikel Arteta as Arsenal have now suffered their 3rd premier league defeat of the season.

In a title race where the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City are hot in their heels, charitable points drop at home could prove costly.

For now, Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, and perhaps from afar, Manchester City and Pep Guardiola will be having a laugh or a relief, with West Ham having accomplished their mission.
