Aaron Ramsdale on his rivalry with David Raya

Arsenal goalie, Aaron Ramsdale thought he had clinched the no. 1 spot under Mikel Arteta’s team, until the Spaniard gave him a rude awakening with the signing of Brentford’s David Raya in the summer window.

Since the Spanish goalkeeper’s move to the Emirates, the England international has seen his stakes lowered as he is now relegated to the number 2.

While Ramsdale was a pivotal figure for Arsenal, featuring in all 38 Premier League matches last season, he has been benched for the last four league games, marking a dramatic change in his role at the club.

The 23-year-old English goalkeeper shared his thoughts on this challenging period, stating,

“I think because it’s one of the first times it’s happened with the situation it has been difficult.

“There are days where I come in and I’m down because of the situation, and he picks me up, and for whatever reason there might be a day where he’s down, and even though I’m suffering and hurting for not playing, I have to stand up and be able to push him.”

It will be difficult to see how this all pans out in the end, but what is guaranteed however is that, if the situation continues past this current season, either of David Raya or Aaron Ramsdale will have to leave the Emirates for regular playing time.
