"We can’t make any excuses or blame anything" -- Gallagher

Chelsea captain on the night of the 5-0 humble to London rivals, Arsenal at the Emirates, Conor Gallagher opens up on the mood of the dressing room after the devastating score line just days after losing to Manchester City at Wembley.

In a heated London derby clash, Chelsea found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline against Arsenal after a sluggish start and a lack of intensity saw them outplayed at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite an early setback conceding a goal, the Blues fought valiantly and came close to equalizing just before halftime when Enzo struck the post. However, the Gunners maintained their momentum after the break, dominating proceedings and securing a crucial victory in the capital.

Following the match, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher expressed immense disappointment and frustration with his team’s performance, issuing a heartfelt apology to the dedicated fans who had made the journey to support them.

“We are really upset and disappointed,” Gallagher lamented. “It was nowhere near good enough. We just want to say sorry to our fans who came to watch that.”

Acknowledging the shortcomings of the team, Gallagher emphasized the need for self-reflection and improvement ahead of future fixtures.

“We started too slow. There were too many mistakes, it was too lethargic as a collective and we weren’t at it,” Gallagher admitted. “We have only got ourselves to look at and there is work to be done.”

Refusing to offer excuses for the lackluster display, Gallagher maintained a candid assessment of Chelsea’s performance, highlighting the importance of taking responsibility as individuals and as a collective unit.

“We can’t make any excuses or blame anything,” Gallagher asserted.

“We just have to look at ourselves as individuals and as a team.”

Despite the setback, Gallagher remained optimistic about Chelsea’s potential for growth and development as a young squad navigating the challenges of the Premier League.

“As you’ve seen this season we’ve had a lot of ups and a lot downs as well. We’re still improving and working together as a team to try to get to that next level and today was one of those days where we were nowhere near it.”
