Why I was scared to celebrate -- Martin Odegaard

Arsenal skipper, Martin Odegaard is one cheeky fella, and after the 0-6 humiliation of Sheffield United on Monday night, the Norwegian had the perfect response when asked why he hesitated to celebrate the goals. And of course, it had to be Jamie Carragher pulling his legs.

Martin Odegaard, playfully admitted to being “scared” to celebrate after a previous critique from Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher regarding his exuberant celebrations.

Odegaard had come under scrutiny from Carragher following Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool in February, where the Norwegian midfielder was seen celebrating by taking pictures with the club photographer amidst jubilant fans.

Carragher’s criticism at the time was pointed, suggesting Odegaard should have simply headed for the tunnel after securing the three points, stating, “Dear me. Just get down the tunnel. You have won a game. It is three points.”

However, fate had a humorous twist as the two crossed paths once more on Monday night following Arsenal’s resounding 6-0 triumph over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Odegaard, who scored the opening goal within five minutes and was subsequently awarded the player of the match, found himself face to face with Carragher during post-match interviews.

In a light-hearted exchange, Carragher couldn’t resist teasing Odegaard about his celebratory antics, asking if he planned to locate the photographer for another snapshot.

Odegaard, in good spirits, quipped back,

“I was waiting for you to say something! I was too scared to [take a photo] today, so I went straight inside today!”
