WhatsApp is set to come up with a new feature that will let users share music playing on their device during video calls

The feature is also expected to enable participants to watch videos together.

Just a couple of days back, reports of WhatsApp working to let users connect without sharing their phone numbers and bringing a new dark mode to reduce strain on users’ eyes had surfaced.

And now, reports suggest that the Meta-owned platform will let users connect via video calls in an even more engaging way.

A report from WABetaInfo states that WhatsApp is all set to elevate its user experience with the introduction of a new feature.

The new feature allows users to share music audio during video calls, bringing an even more immersive element to both one-on-one conversations and group interactions.

According to the report, the feature is currently being tested by beta users. When a participant in a video call shares their screen, the audio they play on their device will be transmitted to others in the call.

It is to be noted that this feature isn’t limited to one-on-one calls; it extends to group video calls as well. This means that users can enjoy a synchronised audio experience in private as well as professional conversations.

Furthermore, the feature allows participants in a call to watch videos together. By experimenting with shared audio during video calls, users can synchronise their video playback experiences. This opens up possibilities for virtual movie-watching sessions or collaborative content-sharing activities, amplifying the social aspect of the platform.

The rollout of this feature is set to happen gradually over the next few weeks, reaching more WhatsApp users on Android devices.

In addition to this, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on another feature. Users will soon have the ability to connect with each other without having to share contact details. This feature, expected in a future update of the web client, will simplify the process of finding and connecting with contacts on the platform.

As part of this feature, WhatsApp users on Android as well as the web will be able to create a username to personalise their profiles. This will make it simpler for them to connect with friends, family, and contacts using a unique identifier.

Once the user chooses a username, their phone number remains private. This extra layer of security ensures that users can communicate with others without revealing their personal contact details. Also, users will be able to change their username whenever they want.
