Truth social announces plans to launch live TV streaming platform

Truth Social, the social media platform owned by Donald Trump’s media company, has unveiled its intention to venture into the realm of live TV streaming.

In a press release, the platform outlined its focus on “news networks,” “religious channels,” and content deemed as facing censorship or suppression on other platforms.

According to the announcement, the streaming service will prioritize “family-friendly” content, including films and documentaries.

The rollout of the service will occur in three phases, beginning with the integration of Truth Social’s content delivery network (CDN) into its existing app for Android, iOS, and web platforms.

Subsequently, over-the-top (OTT) streaming apps will be developed for various devices, followed by the launch of a dedicated streaming app for televisions.

Devin Nunes, CEO of the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We’re excited to move forward with the next big phase for Truth Social.

With our streaming content, we aim to provide a permanent home for high-quality news and entertainment that face discrimination by other channels and content delivery services.”

The announcement coincides with efforts by Elon Musk’s X to transform a social media site into a “video-first” platform promoting free speech.

Meanwhile, Truth Social recently went public following a merger with Digital World Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

Despite its valuation in the billions, TMTG is grappling with financial challenges, reporting a net loss of approximately $49 million in 2023 and revenue of just under $4 million.
