Todd Boehly to eit role as Chelsea Chairman

According to a report from Mail Sport, Todd Boehly is set to step down as Chelsea chairman in 2027 as part of an unusual agreement between the club’s American co-owners.

The agreement stipulates that the chairmanship can be passed between the owners every five years, and the changeover is expected to occur at the end of the 2026/2027 season.

Todd Boehly, despite holding a minority stake, is reportedly set to be the first to relinquish the position. Clearlake Capital, managed by fellow owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano, holds a majority 61.5% share in the club’s holding company. Boehly shares the remaining 38.5% equally with Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.

The decision to have Boehly step down initially is believed to be linked to the terms of the 2022 sale agreement. This agreement states that Boehly’s group would be responsible for covering any initial losses in the event of a sale or realization.

The anticipated change in chairmanship at Chelsea underscores the unique dynamics at play within the ownership structure of the club and reflects the intricacies of the agreements governing its operations.

Todd Boehly has been the face of the West London club following the sale of the club by its former owner, Roman Abramovich two seasons prior, with his potential eit from the role to come as a surprise to many.
