Chelsea suffer more nightmares

As if the season isn’t any worse for Premier League side, Chelsea, their summer signing, Romeo Lavia who hasn’t had quite much time to acclimatize with his new team, has ruled himself out from the rest of the season.

This follows a social media post shared by the Belgian midfielder after he sustained yet another fitness issue on return from the international break.

Despite their hefty investments in the transfer market last summer, Chelsea has endured a lackluster season, currently sitting in 11th place in the Premier League standings with only 11 matches left to play, leaving their hopes for European football next season in jeopardy.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side, though, found solace in their recent qualification for the Carabao Cup final and an upcoming FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City in April.

However, their aspirations for silverware have been dampened by the news of Romeo Lavia’s season-ending injury setback.

Lavia, one of Chelsea’s summer signings, is set to conclude his debut season at Stamford Bridge with just one appearance to his name after sustaining a thigh injury setback.

The 20-year-old midfielder, signed from Southampton in a £60 million deal last summer, rejected an offer from Liverpool to join Chelsea. However, his time with the Blues has been marred by recurring injuries.

Following his arrival at Chelsea, Lavia was sidelined with a muscle injury and later encountered an ankle issue that sidelined him until December. Despite making his club debut in December’s victory over Crystal Palace, he suffered another injury during the same match.

Although medical staff initially anticipated Lavia’s return this month, the setback ensures that Chelsea fans will not witness his on-field contributions until next season.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has faced a slew of injury concerns throughout the campaign, but there is optimism regarding the potential returns of Carney Chukwuemeka, Malo Gusto, and Levi Colwill for Saturday’s fixture against Burnley.
