Social network X makes changes to developer API programme

Social Network X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced changes to its developer API programme. These updates include the addition of new top-up packs for paid upgrades.

These packs allow developers to access additional posts if they reach the limit of their current tier before the end of the month.

Previously, developers faced restrictions when they reached their monthly allowance. They had no way to get more tweets until the following month or upgrade to a higher-priced tier.

Paid tiers were introduced last year, following changes spearheaded by Elon Musk, with monthly rates starting at $100. Later, a Pro tier was added, priced at $5,000 per month.

The latest update now allows developers to purchase top-up packs, giving them more options within their chosen tier.

However, there are restrictions on the number of top-ups available each month. Basic tier developers are limited to ten top-ups, while pro-tier developers are only allowed five.

These changes to X’s API have had a significant impact on the third-party developer ecosystem, causing adjustments to tools and services.

Furthermore, the changes have presented challenges for researchers studying the platform’s data. However, X has made provisions for researchers in the EU to comply with the Digital Services Act (DSA) regulations.
