Nabbed Accountant General of Federation was supposed to be retired

Apparently, everything in Nigeria isn’t always or perhaps ever been by merit but by ‘political appointee’, as reports have shown from findings that Ahmed Idris, the suspended Accountant General of the Federation had outstayed his tenure in civil service.

It’s reported that the AGF had retired from active service in 2021 as a civil servant but was further reappointed in the position of the Accountant General of the Federation on the basis of being a political appointee.

A report revealed that a source at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) revealed Mr. Ahmed Idris’ reappointment letter was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) making his appointment rather a political one than one of merit.

According to the sources who revealed this, Ahmed Idris had served out his term as Accountant General after completing five years in office with the letter appointing him initially as Accountant General being signed by the Head of Service rather than the SGF.

It is reported that the reappointment of the AGF was of the knowledge of the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

An Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) is appointed to the position from the ranks of Directors of Finance and Administration after successfully scaling three examinations ICT, Civil Service Procedures and General Knowledge, but Ahmed Idris is considered to be the first to transition from a civil service AGF to a political appointee.

It’s all about setting the standards, or in this case lowering the standards.
