Nollywood star, Iniobong Edo, popular as Ini Edo has spearheaded a campaign team for protection of women in politics.

The actress spoke to pressmen during a Radio Town Hall Meeting in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday.

Ini made her it known that most women have been discouraged from contesting elections due to bullying, coersion, unhealthy notions against women etc.

She advised women to take advantage of their superior population in contesting for leadership positions and be different from their male counterparts anytime they are opportune to serve.

Executive Director of BIGIF, Mrs Tumininu Adedeji, revealed that the Radio Town Hall Meeting was an initiative of Balm in Gilead Foundation, supported by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) with funding support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The initiative also seeks to establish the link between gender-based electoral violence and the low level of participation of women in politics.

The Chief Executive Officer of Women Development Initiative (NIGAWD), Mrs Abimbola Aladejare-Salako insisted that women deserved to be given preferences and protected against anything that could affect their morale.
