"I was betrayed by my club" -- Leonardo Bonucci on Juventus exit

Leonardo Bonucci has found himself at Union Berlin after an unexpected departure from Juventus.

The veteran defender recently opened up to Mediaset, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his exit from the Turin giants.

Addressing the situation, Bonucci refuted claims made by Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, stating,

“Juventus manager reported some fake stories. It’s not true that Juventus told me months ago, in October and in February, about their intention to part ways with me.”

The Italian international expressed his frustration at what he perceives as miscommunication within the club.

Bonucci went on to reveal,

“In May, I told Juventus board that I was open to stay as the 5th or 6th choice to help all their young players.”

This willingness to contribute in a mentorship role suggests Bonucci’s commitment to the club’s development, despite his advanced age.

The revelation that has stirred controversy is that Juventus directors only informed Bonucci of his exclusion from the club’s project on July 13, much to his surprise. Bonucci expressed his deep disappointment, calling it “the biggest humiliation I’ve suffered.”

The experienced defender further remarked,

“I’ve smelled something by reading it in the newspapers, that I would no longer be part of the Juventus squad and that my presence would hinder the growth of the team.”

This apparent lack of direct communication from the club has left Bonucci feeling disrespected.

Leonardo Bonucci’s departure from Juventus marks the end of a storied tenure that saw him amass over 500 appearances for the Bianconeri.
