Gateway Polytechnic students die after eating suspicious Spaghetti

Gateway Polytechnic, located in Ode-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria, has been hit by a devastating incident where two of its students and an applicant lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.

The bodies of the deceased were discovered on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, and the cause of their deaths is yet to be determined.

Reports indicate that the unfortunate incident began when four students of the institution, along with an applicant who was awaiting admission, experienced stomach problems after consuming a meal of spaghetti.

Tragically, two of the students and the applicant succumbed to the mysterious ailment, leaving the entire institution in shock and grief.

The three confirmed fatalities have been identified as Bakari Habbeb, an ND2 student from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Odu Selen, an ND1 student from the Department of Mass Communication, and Hameed, an applicant seeking admission for the 23/24 academic session.

A circular issued jointly by the school’s Student Union President, Olatunji Idowu Alexander, and the SUG PRO, Tanimowo Joel, confirmed the incident and announced that investigations into the cause of death are already underway.

“It is with great grief in our hearts that the Student Union Government (SUG) announces the passing of three of our students in a household incident overnight,” the circular read in part.

“While the cause of their death remains unknown at the time of this release, we assure the public a well-detailed investigation will be conducted to get to the root of the matter, come what may.”

The news of the tragic event has reverberated through the academic community, leaving the management, families, and well-wishers devastated by the untimely loss of the students.

The school has expressed its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

However, as of now, the Ogun State Police Command, when contacted, stated that they were not aware of the incident. The spokesperson of the command, ASP Oluwole Folashade, promised to look into the matter and provide further details.

In light of the tragic incident, Gateway Polytechnic has postponed its second-semester examinations, which were initially scheduled to commence on Monday, July 17. The examinations have now been rescheduled to begin on July 19.

The institution’s Head of Public Relations, Adebayo Folorunso, conveyed this decision through a circular, urging students to remain calm and peaceful while the management addresses the situation.

The entire academic community is now grappling with grief and uncertainty as they wait for the investigation to unfold and provide answers to the heart-wrenching tragedy that has struck Gateway Polytechnic.
