Police raid kidnappers’ hideout in Lagos, rescue two victims

A nurse in Oke-Owa, Ijebu Ode area, Ogun State, is currently evading arrest after reportedly conducting an abortion on Deborah Sokoya, leading to severe complications and hospitalisation.

According to information obtained from a police source, the abortion procedure, allegedly carried out without Sokoya’s consent, resulted in uncontrolled bleeding, necessitating urgent medical attention.

Reports indicate that Sokoya, under the guise of visiting her elder sister, Mutiat Sokoya, was lured to a location where the abortion took place. Subsequently, she was rushed to a hospital for treatment due to the severity of the complications.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that preliminary investigations unveiled disturbing details. It was revealed that the victim’s partner, Peter Balogun, had previously financed another abortion for Sokoya in 2023.

Both Mutiat and Balogun have been detained for questioning regarding their involvement in the incident. However, the nurse responsible for the alleged abortion is still at large.

Odutola stated, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing nurse and others who participated in the abortion.”

The victim is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital, while the investigation continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
