2 reasons Manchester United want Victor Osimhen

Manchester United have seen their name added to the list of clubs interested in signing Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window. And based on recent reports, there are 2 apparent reasons that the Old Trafford side are eyeing a move for the Nigerian from Naples.

According to the Independent, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are emerging as the frontrunners in the race to secure Victor Osimhen’s signature during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Nigerian forward, who has also garnered interest from clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal, is reported to have a release clause set at €110 million (£94 million).

Sources indicate that Manchester United’s recruitment strategy is heavily influenced by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority stake at Old Trafford, leading to a heightened focus on bolstering their squad.

The club is actively seeking more “intelligent and forward-thinking” signings, with Osimhen identified as a primary target due to his age of 25 and his tactical versatility.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain is reassessing their options in light of Kylian Mbappe’s potential move to Real Madrid in the upcoming transfer window.

Manchester United are also interested in Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko - both of which would appear to represent a more credible long-term investment than Harry Kane and it's a choice United

Victor Osimhen himself has expressed openness to a move to the Premier League in the past, stating,

“I don’t have a favourite Premier League team but I’ve two jerseys: Chelsea and Man United.”

He emphasized the Premier League’s appeal to African players, describing it as a “huge league.”

Osimhen’s impressive performance in Serie A, where he has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 16 appearances for Napoli, has further heightened interest from top European clubs. Notably, he played a central role in Napoli’s triumph in securing their first Scudetto in 33 years last season.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, speaking at the Web Summit Qatar, revealed that Osimhen has a strong desire to join Chelsea.

Mikel asserted, “I’m convinced that Victor wants to come to Chelsea,” while acknowledging interest from other clubs such as PSG and Manchester United.

Mikel expressed his efforts in persuading Osimhen to prioritize Chelsea, citing the desire to see him follow in the footsteps of Nigerian players who have previously excelled at Stamford Bridge.
