Nigerian singer and rapper Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz, has condemned the government of Kano state for jailing Mohammed Yusuf, who allegedly mocked Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in his song.

Falz took to his Instagram handle to share a report by BBC pidgin on the Hausa singer. He said due legal process was not thoroughly followed before Yusuf was jailed.

According to him, the arrest and imprisonment of Yusuf, better known as AGY, is a violation of his constitutional right on freedom of expression.

“Hate to see stuff like this! This is 2019. Any individual who feels defamed by any statement made by another person can sue for libel or slander under the law of defamation,” Falz wrote.

“It is shameful to see public officers using the machinery of the state to harass citizens and attempting to hinder our inalienable freedom of expression.”

Falz further expressed his readiness to seek legal redress for the jailed singer.

“Anyone who knows the musician Mohammed Yusuf personally should please get in touch with me. We need to contend with this unjust sentence,” he wrote.
