They Came For Me But I Owed Al Nassr My Word--Ronaldo

Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo despite controversy surrounding his reported exit from the club, refuses to show no remorse as he picks a stand while speaking to reporters in the Portugal camp at Qatar.

The five time golden ball winner according to his statement from the organized press conference, has cautioned reporters from interrogating his teammates about him and focus instead on the primary duty that is the world cup.

For the first time, Cristiano Ronaldo addressed his contentious interview with Piers Morgan and urged the media and reporters to stop enquiring about him from his Portugal colleagues.

In the two-part interview with Morgan on TalkTV, Ronaldo made waves by criticizing Manchester United and asserting that the team had made “zero development” since he left in 2009.

He stated he did not “have regard” for manager Erik ten Hag and that his bosses had “betrayed” him.

Cristiano Ronaldo now appears to have played his final match for the club, and Manchester United is apparently looking into methods to sever relationship with the player after declaring in a club statement that they have “taken proper actions.”

Due to the fact that so many of the press conference questions were in relation to his comments, the interview has overshadowed Portugal’s World Cup preparations.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner made an unexpected appearance at a press conference on Monday to talk about the controversy ahead of Portugal’s opening match on Thursday.

“Timing is always timing. From your side it is easy to look at how we can chose timings.

“Sometimes you write truths, sometimes you write lies. I don’t have to worry what others think. I talk when I want to. “Everybody knows who I am, what I believe in. They have known me [here] since I was 11. They will not be influenced by what people say and write about me.

“The atmosphere is excellent, no problems, we are completely focused. You can help by not talking about me. I’m completely bullet-proof and iron-clad.

“If you ask other players about Cristiano Ronaldo I would be upset. If you want to ask him about the World Cup and the team, I would like you to do that.”

Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes looked to exchange awkward greetings when they first joined the national squad.

Fernandes downplayed the situation to reporters, claiming that the absence of sound in the clip gave the impression that there was a problem.

Ronaldo has clarified that they were joking about and that the incident with Joao Cancelo in training was exaggerated.

He added:

“We were just playing around – we have great relations. His plane was late and I asked him, ‘Did you come by boat’ I was goofing around.

“Same with [Joao] Cancelo. He was sad during practice. I said, “wake up, come on, you’ve got this!” Another controversy on your end.”

Portugal’s first match is against Ghana on Thursday, followed by Group G matches against Uruguay and South Korea.
