Alejandro Garnacho: Manchester United have reacted accordingly

Manchester United has addressed the aftermath of Alejandro Garnacho’s substitution and subsequent social media activity, providing insight into the situation following their Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.

During last weekend’s match at the Vitality Stadium, Garnacho was replaced at halftime as United trailed 2-1, with Amad Diallo coming on in his place.

Following the game, Garnacho, an Argentina international, liked two tweets criticizing manager Erik ten Hag’s decision to substitute him.

One of the tweets, authored by Mark Goldbridge, expressed dissatisfaction with the substitution, highlighting Garnacho’s contributions throughout the season. Another tweet suggested that Ten Hag was unfairly singling out Garnacho in post-match comments.

According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has handled the matter internally. While a club spokesperson declined to confirm whether Garnacho faced disciplinary action, it was confirmed that the player had unliked the critical tweets.

Garnacho, aged 19, has been a standout performer for United this season, featuring in 30 league games and scoring seven goals.

Despite a mixed performance against Bournemouth, contributing an assist for Bruno Fernandes but also losing possession in the build-up to an opponent’s goal, Garnacho has been an integral part of the team.

Explaining the decision to substitute Garnacho, manager Erik ten Hag emphasized the need to address weaknesses on the right side of the pitch.

He noted that Garnacho had not trained much during the week, prompting the decision to bring on Diallo for added energy and quality in possession.

The Manchester United boss praised the team’s resilience in coming back from deficits during the match and highlighted the positive spirit and character displayed by the players.
