"I don't regret not playing for Chelsea" -- Gerrard

Liverpool icon, Steven Gerrard drew quite the reaction some years back after the Champions League final in Istanbul when reports came out that he would be headed for West London to play under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

However, as history has it, the move ultimately failed, with Gerrard instead remaining at Liverpool for another 10 seasons winning a few trophies at the club but not the one that got away.

Ironically, the chances of that happening was stopped by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea when the famous Reds icon slipped to gift the Blues a 1-0 lead courtesy of Demba Ba.

The former LA Galaxy star has now opened up on his regrets at Liverpool, as he details what he failed to achieve while being stuck at the Merseyside club.

In an interview with Rio Ferdinand on the FIVE YouTube channel, Gerrard revealed his admiration for Mourinho and his belief that they could have secured numerous trophies together.

“I love the manager, I love the man. I have had a distant relationship with him for many many years. But, I have regrets for not playing for the man and the coach because I know he would have made me a better player. I know we would have added more trophies to what I’ve already won,” Gerrard expressed.

However, Gerrard clarified that although he wished for the opportunity to play under Mourinho, he harbors no remorse for turning down Chelsea.

“But, looking back now, I have no regrets not signing for Chelsea, I don’t regret not signing for Chelsea at all. I’m happy with the decision I made,” he affirmed.

It should be noted that Jose Mourinho made plenty moves to tempt Steven Gerrard away from Anfield, famously with Chelsea and at a point, as confirmed by the Portuguese himself, at Real Madrid.
