Bobrisky sentenced to Prison Jail term

Nigeria’s infamous crossdresser Idris Okuneye, otherwise known as Bobrisky has been sentenced to 6-months prison term by the Federal High Court in Lagos.

This comes after the controversial socialite was arraigned by the EFCC for abusing the Nigerian currency,  the Naira.

Following his arraignment, Bobrisky pleaded guilty in court for the crime.

In the ruling delivered on Friday morning, April 12, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos handed down a six-month jail sentence with no option of fine to the cross-dresser.

The judgement marks the culmination of a legal saga that began on April 5th when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Bobrisky in court on a six-count charge, including allegations of Abuse of the Naira and Money laundering.

Despite the dismissal of the money laundering charges, Bobrisky was convicted for Naira Abuse following his confession to the crime.

Upon conviction, the court ordered Bobrisky’s remand in EFCC detention in Lagos pending sentencing. The subsequent hearing for judgement, initially scheduled for April 9, was postponed due to the Eid-Fitri public holiday observed from April 9 to April 11.

In delivering the verdict, Justice Awogboro underscored the seriousness of the offense, emphasizing the need to uphold the integrity of the nation’s currency.
