"Arteta insulted my family in Spanish" -- Porto coach

Premier League club, Arsenal may have emerged as eventual winners in the 2-legged tie with FC Porto, but the game did not go without words being traded and now it appears Mikel Arteta may be guilty of some foul language prior to full time whistle.

Tensions flared at the Emirates Stadium as Porto’s Champions League campaign came to an end with a penalty shootout defeat against Arsenal in the last-16 second leg.

Sérgio Conceiçao, the manager of Porto, has alleged that his Arsenal counterpart, Mikel Arteta, directed insults towards his family during the intense encounter.

With Porto trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Leandro Trossard’s goal in the first half of the second leg leveled the tie on aggregate, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion. However, neither side managed to find the back of the net in regulation time, leading to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

David Raya’s heroics in goal saw Arsenal emerge victorious, but the drama did not end there. Conceiçao, speaking to the media after the match, claimed that Arteta had verbally attacked his family during the game.

“Arteta turned to the bench during the game and insulted my family in Spanish,” Conceiçao stated. “I told him that the person he insulted is no longer among us.”

Expressing his displeasure at Arteta’s behavior, Conceiçao urged the Arsenal manager to focus on his team’s performance rather than engaging in such conduct.

“Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better,” Conceiçao remarked, emphasizing that such actions were unnecessary on the football pitch.
