Arsenal set to sign Maquinhos

What are Arsenal’s plans for the summer now? Will be Arsenal fans’ question, should Tottenham proceed ahead of them into the UEFA Champions League come Sunday by beating relegated Norwich City.

It’s a new low the club fans cannot imagine or contain, should North London arch rivals finish above them in the league table let alone go to Champions League while they are stuck in the relegated Europa League.

They no longer have anything to do to control it, as their fate now lies on Norwich to beat Tottenham while they beat Everton, come last day of the season. Be that as it may, the club will be looking to bounce back.

According to reports, Arsenal are now looking to sign Marquinhos, the Sao Paulo winger whom they have had in their checklist for some time.

It is reported that the winger travelled to London on Thursday to undergo a medical with Mikel Arteta’s club, as reported by Goal though it is not yet officially confirmed but it seems more like a matter of time before he is.

Arsenal are said to have agreed a £2.5 million fee for the winger with the Gunners revealed to have taken advantage of a contractual issue that could have seen the 19-year-old leave on a free transfer.

“(Marquinhos) was supposed to be (available for) free. That’s the truth. We still got 3 million euros from Arsenal,” the Sao Paulo sports coordinator,  Muricy Ramalho, said. “If he went to FIFA (and appealed), we wouldn’t be entitled to anything.” He added.

According to Goal, Marquinhos is said to have flown to London, undergone his medical and visited the club’s training facilities ahead of the move.

The report adds that Arsenal view the teenager as ‘one for the future’ along with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli who came from FC Ituano 3 years prior.
