Arsenal are back but can they break the Curse?

Arsenal made a triumphant return to the Champions League group stage and judging by their performances this season in the premier league and against RC Lens, the Gunners are here to stay if not win.

Mikel Arteta’s side in their penultimate group stage fixture saw them dominate Lens in spectacular fashion, securing a resounding 6-0 victory and securing their ticket to the knockout stages for the first time since 2016.

The North London team’s journey in this season’s Champions League has seen its fair share of challenges, but their emphatic win over Lens showcased their prowess in stunning fashion.

Determined to avenge their previous surprising defeat against the French side, Arsenal exhibited an insatiable hunger from the opening whistle.

Arsenal tore through Lens’ defense repeatedly, resulting in a mesmerizing first-half display that left their opponents reeling. Goals flowed effortlessly, with five different players—Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard—all finding the net before halftime. The halftime lead marked a record margin for an English team in the prestigious competition.

As the outcome appeared all but sealed, the intensity waned in the second half. The major highlight came in the form of a contentious handball decision that awarded Arsenal a penalty, expertly converted by substitute Jorginho.

For the fortunate Gunners fans witnessing the match in the chilly atmosphere of North London, the fireworks of the first half will be etched in their memories for a long time to come. Arsenal’s scintillating performance not only secured their place in the knockout stages but also reaffirmed their potential as serious contenders in the tournament.

However, the question remains, can they go all the way to break the Champions League curse?
