Amaju Pinnick sues Davido

The organizers of the annual ‘Warri Again Concert,’ Brownhill Investments Company Limited, have initiated legal action against the popular Nigerian musician David Adeleke, known as Davido.

They are demanding N2.3 billion in damages, citing an alleged breach of a contract/agreement they had entered into.

Brownhill Investments Company Limited, which is owned by the former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, filed the lawsuit marked EHC/183/2023 before the Delta State High Court in Effurun.

The claimant, represented by their lawyer, Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem, is seeking N2 billion as general damages from Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited.

Additionally, the organizers are requesting the court to order Davido to pay N150 million as legal and professional fees and an extra N30 million as the cost of filing the suit.

They also want Davido to issue a public apology on his social media accounts and in two national daily newspapers for four consecutive days to both the claimant and attendees of the event.

According to the statement of claim, Davido approached Amaju Pinnick sometime in early 2023, during a meeting at the Abuja Airport, and requested to perform at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert’ scheduled for October 6, 2023.

After some initial hesitation, Pinnick agreed, and they settled on N70 million as Davido’s performance fee. A payment of US$94,500.00 (equivalent to N70 million) was made on April 6, 2023, and the defendants duly acknowledged receipt of the funds.

Davido also recorded a promotional video for the event. However, he failed to appear on the day of the event, despite the substantial resources spent by the claimant on print and social media advertisements and promotions.

A formal reminder letter was sent to Davido on September 29, 2023, with a flight itinerary for a private jet chartered to transport him and his team to and from Warri, Delta State, incurring an additional $18,000 in expenses.

On the day of the event, October 6, 2023, all attempts to reach Davido and his team proved futile, even though a private jet had been chartered and was on standby at the Lagos Airport in anticipation of their arrival.

As a result, Pinnick‘s company is seeking the full payment of $94,500 as compensation for engaging Davido’s services for the event.
