Am Glad He Listened To Me -- Piers Morgan

Controversial media personality, Piers Morgan, has jokingly taken credit for Arsenal’s resurgence under Mikel Arteta and their Premier League title charge this season. The Gunners are currently five points clear at the top of the league table, ahead of second-placed Manchester City, after a remarkable transformation under Arteta.

Despite initial struggles in his tenure, the Arsenal board stuck with Arteta, and their patience is being rewarded as the team now sits in pole position to win the league.

Piers Morgan, one of Arteta’s main detractors earlier in his tenure, aimed brutal tweets at the Spanish manager during a tough run of form.

However, the 57-year-old has now fully backed Arteta and even joked that his derogatory tweets had spurred the team on to perform better.

“I’m very, very glad that my motivational tweets were listened to and acted on,” Morgan said on talkSPORT. He also went on to say that the current Arsenal side is the best team the club has produced since the legendary Invincibles.

“I’ve never seen the Emirates as loud and universal in its support for a team and manager as it is now,” he added. “The media are loving the way Arsenal are playing. We got spoilt in the first eight years under Wenger in the way they played.”

Morgan continued to express his confidence in the team’s chances of winning the league, stating that they have the best quality of football and the best squad since the Invincibles days. He even predicted that Arsenal could extend their lead at the top of the table, saying that their next four games are relatively easy.

“If City were to trip up and we go eight points clear… I’ll leave the rest to you,” Morgan said.

Arteta’s side has won 19 of their 25 league games this season and, as mentioned above, are five points clear of defending league champions Manchester City. Arsenal will resume their league campaign on Saturday when they host Bournemouth.
