"Wizkid trying to kill Afrobeats" -- Artistes come for Nigerian icon

Nigerian veteran rapper Terry Tha Rapman has sparked controversy with his comments regarding Afrobeats sensation Wizkid, accusing him of undermining both the rap genre and now Afrobeats itself.

The friction began when Wizkid took to social media to express his frustration, claiming he couldn’t fit into any specific genre, including Afrobeats.

In response, Terry Tha Rapman, using the X platform, rebuked Wizkid, alleging that his earlier assertion that “rap is dead” had contributed to the decline of rap music, and now, with his recent comments, he’s attempting to undermine Afrobeats.

Terry Tha Rapman’s message on the X platform warned Highlife artists to be cautious, suggesting they might be Wizkid’s next target.

The controversy deepened when Wizkid announced his new album, ‘Morayo’, on Instagram Stories, explicitly stating that the project was not intended for Afrobeats lovers. The announcement drew reactions from other Nigerian celebrities, notably Tunde Ednut, who expressed surprise at Wizkid’s position.

Tunde Ednut emphasized the cultural significance of Afrobeats and its enduring connection to Nigerian heritage. Despite his disagreement with Wizkid’s stance, Ednut wished the artist success with his upcoming album and pledged to support it if it met his expectations.
