Why Liverpool will never sign Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool ever since the 2019/20 season, has grown to become a social media meme that just won’t go away no matter how much every indication points to the Frenchman favoring a move to Real Madrid than to Anfield.

The latest reports emerging from France, insists the Premier League side are genuine contenders for the PSG forward’s signature pending the expiration of his contract at the Parc des Princes.

However, the fact still remains glaringly obvious, when relating Mbappe to Liverpool — plainly put, this is a move that just doesn’t smell right for the Merseyside club.

Looking at the manner at which Liverpool have conducted their transfer business in recent years, bringing in a star player like the Frenchman, in as much as it holds a lot of positive for the club, goes against a certain principle the Reds have gone by since the ownership of the 19-times EPL Champions.

Liverpool have a rigid wage structure that defines how they conduct their transfer businesses, as well as how they balance their books to ensure they stay on the right side of the Financial Fair Play. They broke tradition when they recently offered their star player, Mohamed Salah an improved deal to extend his contract with the club.

Why Liverpool will never sign Kylian Mbappe

Compared to Mohamed Salah, Mbappe earns considerably more at PSG, which when factoring a move to Liverpool, would mean the Frenchman agreeing to a large percentage of pay cut, which is highly unlikely.

According to reports per Ben Jacobs, the 25-year old Mbappe is already turning down an £80 million fee by not extending his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, and it is certainly not to risk taking a pay cut at Liverpool if other clubs could be willing to pay more.

The Mbappe to Liverpool move is mere marketing…

Of course, the reports that the former AS Monaco man allegedly favors Liverpool may not be entirely wrong or false, but football in the modern day has grown to become a business and a publicity platform.

A move to Real Madrid, considering the club is without a senior Centre Forward this season and are largely reliant on Jude Bellingham to dish out the numbers this season, is one that ticks all the boxes for Mbappe.

At Real Madrid, the Frenchman gains the publicity that the Madrid brand offers; a larger opportunity to chase for trophies and to contend for the Ballon d’Or if the chance provides him such, compared to Liverpool.

And on Liverpool’s part, they will surely have to let go 2 players if its owners, Fenway Sports Group are ready to sanction such move, which by effect means letting go of Mohamed Salah who is rumored to be contemplating a contract extension at the club.

Letting go of Salah for Mbappe may seem like the no-brainer, however what is interesting to note, is that the influence the Egyptian has for Liverpool cannot be replicated by Mbappe.

Of course, the possibility of Mbappe bringing in the goals is high, but what is certain is that, the Frenchman will find it tougher replicating Salah’s status at the club if he is the direct replacement of the Egyptian.
