The next Messi could be a Man United player if this happens

The race for the next Lionel Messi is hot on its heels and Manchester United could be leading the charge.

Manchester United is eyeing a strategic move that could potentially secure the services of ‘the next Lionel Messi,’ 17-year-old Claudio Echeverri, as part of their future lineup.

The Red Devils are considering the recruitment of Dougie Freedman, presently associated with Crystal Palace, as their potential sporting director in the wake of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed acquisition of a 25% stake in the club.

Reportedly, Ratcliffe’s initial action involved the replacement of chief executive Richard Arnold with Patrick Stewart in an interim capacity.

However, the focus now shifts to Freedman, who is speculated to assume a pivotal role upon Ratcliffe’s arrival.

Freedman’s involvement could significantly bolster United’s efforts to secure the promising Argentine prospect, Echeverri. Often touted as ‘the next Messi,’ Echeverri garnered attention following his debut for River Plate’s first team earlier this year.

His remarkable performances earned him a spot in Argentina’s U17 World Cup squad in Indonesia, where he notched his maiden international goal against Japan.

Speaking about comparisons to Messi, Echeverri downplayed the association, stating,

He was a talented player” - Argentine talent Claudio Echeverri admits he is 'nowhere near' Lionel Messi, picks better comparison

“I always said that my idol was Messi, but I’m nowhere near Messi! I also really liked Pablo Aimar, who’s part of the national-team staff, and he’s spoken to me many times.”

He acknowledged Aimar’s guidance and drew parallels between his own style and the former player’s penchant for taking on defenders.

Freedman, currently scouting talent at the U17 World Cup, could play a pivotal role in negotiations for Echeverri’s potential acquisition if he joins Manchester United.

Amidst talks of securing top-tier talent, the club seems poised to leverage Freedman’s expertise and connections in the footballing world, potentially signaling a transformative phase for the team’s roster.
