Super Falcons star, Ashleigh Plumptre joins Al-Ittihad

The cat is finally out of the bag on Ashleigh Plumptre as she is announced as new signing for Al-Ittihad Women’s team.

Following an incredible World Cup campaign, the ‘ruckus’ had fallen on where next Plumptre would be playing after seeing off her contract with Leicester City Women prior to the World Cup campaign in Australia.

After a month’s wait on the official announcement, news came on social media that the Super Falcons star has signed a contract with the Saudi Arabian club.

Taking to her social media page on Twitter, Ashleigh Plumptre announced the move, stating;

Grateful to have signed for Al-Ittihad  Excited to start this journey alongside some incredible human beings. My journey of stepping into more of myself continues… It’s more than football,”

The move comes as a bit of shock as reports had rained the media space some weeks back suggesting the former England international had signed for Manchester United Women’s team.

However a recent interview with Eagles Tracker gave a hint on where Plumptre’s eventual move will lead to.

On the reason behind the move, the 25-year-old explains in an interview with the club;

“Football is for me has always been about connecting with not only more of myself but with the people I am surrounded by, whether that’s my teammate, or the staff,

“All I have done in my career has always been about representing something bigger than myself. Joining Al-Ittihad I feel as if I am going to have so many opportunities to learn about football here,

“For me I don’t come here with any expectations. I come here being myself and I hope that I can learn and take so much from the environment, both as a football player but more importantly as a human being, and I’m already feeling that and looking forward to getting the journey started with this team and seeing what we can achieve in every aspect.”

The defender takes on the no. 2 jersey, reminiscent of her World Cup shirt number with the Super Falcons team.

Ashleigh Plumptre joins Morocco Women’s midfielder, Salma Amani who recently joined from French club, Metz.
