Some Heroes don’t wear Capes: Story of a Man who risked his life to save Hundreds in Delta

If a story is ever told about a man who risked his own life to save hundreds, it definitely will make a good film plot, except this wasn’t a film but something that happened in Delta to confirm some heroes don’t wear capes.

It happened in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State when a driver risked his own life to drive a burning diesel tanker from a petrol station through the ever busy East-West road to protect innocent lives that might have been lost.

Without a fire alarm or a campaign, this man saved a lot of lives who may not know they had being saved that day.

It definitely is a tale of the brave and the bold, with the man being identified as Ejiro Otarigho.

The reports said he had spotted the tanker having caught fire while trying to offload diesel at the petrol station, and had swiftly leapt into the vehicle to drive the tanker from the populated area of the city centre to where no one was.

It is gathered that the incident happened on the evening of Friday, June 10.

Ejiro Otarigho was said to have driven the tanker from the densely populated city with the raging fire to the outskirts of Agbarho riverside where it ended up bursting into flames.

The man escaped free from harm as he had managed to jump off the tanker in time.

Sources said that Otarigho, the heroic driver, barely got married four months ago, sometime in February earlier in the year but was courageous enough to save lives that could have been caught in the explosion, instead of running to protect his.

Video footage of the scene posted on social media showed many pouring accolades on the man whom they said deserved a federal government national award.

Indeed the hero deserves a medal of honor and recognition and very much in more ways than none, proven this country still has a number of good people who don’t think only of themselves.
