Slain General’s family receives N20m from Gov. Zulum

Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum has directed the immediate release of N20m as support to the Brig-Gen. Dzarma Zirkushu.

Brig-Gen. Dzarma Zirkushu had died on Saturday, November 13th, 2021 along with other soldiers in an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province in the Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Zulum paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family at Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna during where he order the support fund of N20m be given to them.

The governor’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau confirmed in a statement, saying that the support would be made to families of soldiers who died alongside General Zirkushu.

Zulum visited the family with a delefation consisting of Borno’s three Senators, Kashim Shettima, Mohammed Ali Ndume, and Abubakar Kyari; the State Chairman of APC, Ali Bukar Dalori, and two Members of House of the Representatives, Dr Haruna Mshelia and Ahmad Jaha, who both represent constituencies that include Chibok where late General Zirkushu was commanding the 28 Task Force Brigade, and Askira-Uba which was attacked by insurgents, for which the General died.
The Governor consoled the family and urged them to take solace in the heroic legacy bequeathed to them by the late General.

Zulum said the people of Borno would remain eternally grateful for the sacrifice of the late General and other soldiers who died with him.

Commissioner for Kaduna state Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced that his state government would also be making a N2m donation  to support the family of the slain.

Aruwan said Kaduna’s support was to compliment Borno in reaching out to the late General’s bereaved family.

General T. Opuene, who spoke on behalf of the family and the Nigerian Army, appreciated the governor and his delegation for travelling from Maiduguri to visit the family.
