Seun Kuti Released on Bail Following Alleged Assault on Police Officer

Seun Kuti, the renowned Afrobeat musician and son of the late Fela Kuti, has been released on bail from the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos.

This comes after his recent arrest for allegedly assaulting a police officer on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

A arrest order was made on Saturday for the arrest of the Grammy-nominated saxophonist and singer after a viral video showed him on a road, shouting and apparently pushing and hitting a policeman.

The reason for Kuti’s confrontation was sketchy,  however the singer wrote on social media that the officer in question “tried to kill me and my family”. He reportedly suggested the officer tried to ram their car.

TopNaija reports that the news of Seun Kuti’s release on bail was confirmed on Tuesday night by his attorney, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, during a telephone interview with The Punch.

The lawyer had earlier stated that Kuti would be released on bail as ordered by the Magistrate.

A video circulating online showed Seun Kuti outside the detention center, surrounded by jubilant fans and friends celebrating his release.

The Afrobeat artist’s supporters expressed their joy at his freedom, relieved to see him out of custody.

The incident leading to Seun Kuti’s arrest had sparked widespread interest and raised concerns among his fans and the general public.

However, with his release on bail, the musician can now focus on addressing the legal matters surrounding the case.
