Sadio Mane to face humiliating consequences for punching Sane

Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane is expected to apologize to his teammates after reportedly punching Leroy Sane following their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League.

According to reports, Sadio Mane became involved in an on-pitch argument with the ex-City attacker which led to a ‘loud discussion’ between the two players after the game.

On Thursday, Mane arrived at the club’s Säbener Strasse training ground and was seen smiling, according to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg. It has been claimed that the chiefs at the Bundesliga champions discussed ‘several’ consequences yesterday.

Mane’s first season in Germany has not gone according to plan after leaving Liverpool, as he has come under scrutiny following his return from injury. Reports that emerged on Wednesday suggest it has continued to plateau after making a 21-minute cameo at the Etihad Stadium. It is unclear what the consequences of his actions will be, with suggestions including a fine, suspension, or separation from the squad.

The altercation between Mane and Sane reportedly occurred after Mane voiced his complaints over the way the former City winger spoke to him, resulting in the two players being separated.

Reports from BILD have stated that Mane’s punch ‘left marks on Sane’s face’, and that Bayern Munich has refused to comment on the matter. Sky Germany via Sky Sports has also reported that Sane’s lip was bleeding after the altercation, and that the two players took separate exits out of Munich airport upon their return home.

Mane is expected to acknowledge his actions to the squad during training today, and the consequences of his actions will be determined by the club’s chiefs. Bayern Munich will face Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals next week, and Mane’s availability for the match remains uncertain.
