Police in Lagos arrest five suspected robbers, recover guns
TopNaija reports that the Police Command in Lagos State has arrested five suspects for allegedly terrorizing and dispossessing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables in the Idimu and Mushin areas of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Sunday that arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects, adding that some of the suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search.
He stated, “In furtherance of the investigation into the case of one Peter Arinola, aka Blood, who was arrested with an English pistol at the Empire area of Surulere recently while threatening and harassing a commercial sex worker, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested additional two suspected armed robbers in connection with the case as arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
“The suspects were arrested by police operatives attached to the Idimu Division based on enhanced intelligence by the Surulere and Idimu divisions with a view to apprehending the suspects, who are still suspected to have some arms in their possession.
“The suspects, Sheriff Shonibare, aka Stainless, and Quadri Ayonuga, aka Sugar, were arrested in Idimu during a stop-and-search on February 23, 2021, as a follow-up to the intelligence. They are assisting the police in their investigation as many revelations are being made.”
In another development, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad have stormed criminal hideouts in the Mushin area of the state and arrested three kingpins and other suspected armed robbers, whose identities have not been revealed.
Adejobi said in the statement, “The RRS operatives, who operated in Mushin and other parts of the mainland over the weekend, also impounded 29 motorcycles as part of the onslaught against criminals and lawlessness in the state.
“The operation, which was led by the Commander, Rapid Response Squad, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, was a follow-up to earlier discreet investigations by the squad’s decoy team at Eko Boys High School, Showunmi Street and Itire Road, all in Mushin.
“The seizure of 29 motorcycles during the operation was to reduce the reported incidences of traffic robbery and in the enforcement of the restriction order of the state government on the corridor for motorcyclists. The motorcycles were impounded on the BRT lane at Ikeja Along and Ile Zik as well as Allen junction, which are restricted routes for motorcycles.”
While reiterating the order of the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, the PPRO said the RRS boss disclosed that the enforcement of the restriction on motorcyclists would continue in order to restore sanity in the areas.
