At least two persons died in a road crash involving an 18-passenger commercial bus and a car on the Ado Ekiti-Iworoko Road in Ekiti State on Sunday.

TopNaija gathered that 12 persons, who sustained varying degrees of injury in the crash, which occurred close to the gate of the Ekiti State University, were rushed to a hospital.

An eyewitness said the Ado Ekiti-bound bus had a head-on collision with the car, which was heading for Iworoko, adding, “Apart from excessive speeding on the part of the drivers, the bad portions on the road also contributed to the accident.

“The road needs urgent attention by the government because it has become accident-prone around the area due to its poor condition.

“Although I was scared and could not get close, from what I saw, two or three persons died in the accident.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the crash, said, “Two persons lost their lives in the accident.”

Abutu said reports indicated that the collision was a result of excessive speeding.

“There was an accident today (Sunday) on the Ado-Iworoko Road. Two vehicles had a head-on collision. In the process, two persons were confirmed dead and others are receiving treatment in hospital,” he stated.

The PPRO said the police had begun an investigation into the incident.
